Microsoft senior product manager Jason Leznek in the Microsoft officials Vista blog said that some Vista testers often do not successfully connect to the Public Wi-Fi hot spots, this problem occurs because the wireless AP or router hardware is not compatible or Wi-Fi can not properly support energy saving protocol, resulting in 802.11 wireless network card can not enter sleep power saving mode. To ensure users can smoothly connect notebook wireless hotspots, Microsoft decided to give up before the release of power-saving mode, the default Vista’s wireless configuration will be settings in the performance of more energy-intensive mode.
Typically, the user only select this mode in the notebook connected to AC power , so if the user doesn’t know and use the laptop battery to support Vista , of course it can not persist for too long. Vista offers three power management options, the largest and most power-hungry performance is “High Performance”, the most power but the performance of the worst is “Power Saver”, the relative balance between performance and power consumption is “Balanced”.
OEM manufacturers may modify some default settings before ship Vista notebooks , users can control panel in Vista, select the power saving mode, of course, can replace with XP or other systems.
